Weaving Industry Fair, Narsingdi district, famous for its branding, Narsingdi district, famous for its weaving industry, was part of Maheshwardi Pargana during the Mughal period. Maheshwardi pargana was a pargana under Narayanganj subdivision of Dhaka district during the Mughal period. During the Sultanate period, its name was Subarnavithi. The present Narisandi district is formed by combining parts of this pargana. The original form of the word Narsingdi is Narsinghadi. Isha Khan's 11th senior male king Narasimha founded a small town called Nagar Narsinghpur' on the banks of the ancient Brahmaputra three miles east of the Shitalakshya river in the first decade of the fifteenth century, now in Palash police station and known as Parulia. Nagar Narsinghpur' was on the west bank of Brahmaputra river. On the eastern bank of this river there is still a village called Char' of Narsingh. It is believed that the name Narasinghadi originated from the name of King Narasimha. There is an explanation of how the word 'di' came to be associated with Narasimha. In fact, in ancient times the word was dihi. The meaning of this word in Sanskrit language is 'Danga'. As Narsingdi is a high land, it was named Narsingh Dihi in the early period. Later it was distorted in the face of the public and named as Narasimha Dihi. This word is gradually dropped and becomes Narsingdi as the letters h and hi have no separate importance in pronunciation.
The entire area of the present Narsingdi Sadar Thana was under Rupganj Police Station under Narayanganj Sub-Division established in 1882. The remaining area of Narsingdi was included in Raipura and Manohardi police stations. A police outpost was established at Narsingdi in 1910 which was converted into a full-fledged police station in 1933. A full-fledged police station was also established at Shivpur probably around the same time. After the independence of Bangladesh, Palash Thana was formed with several unions of Kaliganj and Shibpur Thana. Then, in 1977, Narsingdi subdivision was formed with five police stations namely Narsingdi, Raipura, Manohardi, Shibpur and Palash. In this newly formed Narsingdi Sub-Division, the Magistrate Court started, but the Munsef Court was conducted from Narayanganj as before. In 1982, arrangements were made to transfer the Munsef Court from Narayanganj to Narsingdi Sub-Division. Later, on 31 August 1982, the proceedings of the Munsef Court started in the rented house
